Should you eat bitter cucumbers?

Normally, people have the habit of cutting both ends of the cucumber, rubbing gently to remove the bitter sap. This is cucurbitacin which helps protect the plant from harmful insects. This bitter taste is not toxic but reduces the quality and deliciousness of the cucumber.

In case the cucumber is bitter in the stem, astringent, and spongy, it should be discarded to avoid harm to health. We cannot distinguish cucumbers contaminated with chemicals by normal observation, unless the fruit is severely contaminated, causing damage. In particular, fruit with many yellow stains or wilted, mushy to the touch, should not be purchased.

Before eating, you should soak in salt water for 10 minutes, peel, cut off head and tail.

Cucumbers contain many beneficial nutrients, some plant compounds, antioxidants. The calorie content in cucumbers is low, suitable for people who want to lose weight and stay in shape. However, you should not eat too much, causing indigestion and frequent urination.

Eating too much can also lead to excess potassium, causing bloating and abdominal pain. People with intestinal diseases, poor digestive systems, and kidney disease should consider when eating.
