Minors will be able to use Google Wallet to buy in physical stores from 2025, but with supervision

Google will make available to underage users a new payment functionality with Google Walletwhich will be available on Android devices in 2025 for in-store purchases and managed by the Family Link app.

Google plans to allow the use of Google Wallet to minors with Android terminals, who will be able to download this ‘app’ under the supervision of Family Link, the solution that allows parents and guardians to monitor the time minors spend with their mobile devices. as well as knowing the applications they have downloaded or which ones they use the most.

With Wallet, children will be able to make payments using the touch payment or one-touch payment functionality, which debuted a few months ago on the Fitbit Ace LTE children’s watch. It will give them the opportunity to execute transactions with the knowledge of adults from physical stores, exclusively. This means that they will not be able to use it to make online payments.

Children will also not be able to add private identification, such as ID cards or health cards, to their digital wallet, at least at launch. However, it will be possible for them to use gift cards and tickets to events, to which adults will have access.

They, for their part, must approve each credit or debit card that is added to Wallet, and will be able to see the history of recent transactions from Family Link. Through this application, they will also be able to easily approve or delete cards.

As is common in the payment system with near field communication (NFC) technology, to make payments, minors must use the device’s PIN, a password, a fingerprint or the recognition function facial.

Wallet for children with the possibility of making payments will arrive next year to users in some countries, including the United States, before its expansion, as the firm recently confirmed to 9to5Google.
