Georgia refuses to join the EU until the end of 2028

Tbilisi will not participate in the negotiations on joining the European Union (EU) until 2028, Irakli Kobakhidze announced today in Tbilisi after being reappointed as Prime Minister.

“We have decided not to include the issue of starting EU membership negotiations in our agenda until the end of 2028,” Kobakhidze said at the briefing.

According to him, for Tbilisi, “it is absolutely unacceptable to consider integration into the European Union as a mercy that the European Union should give us.”

“Also, until the end of 2028, we will give up the budget grants provided by the EU. We see that European politicians and bureaucrats are using the grants and loans to blackmail Georgia,” he added.

Earlier, the Council of Europe itself announced that the integration process of Georgia was actually stopped due to the actions of the ruling “Georgian Dream”.

Brussels and other European capitals stressed that they cannot support Georgia’s EU membership negotiations unless the country, in particular, repeals laws that contradict European values and principles, including the law on “foreign agents”.

Today, the European Parliament approved a resolution not recognizing the results of the elections in Georgia.
