The first day of pre-installation tests of the Formula 1 2025 World Cup in Bahrain was marked by an unexpected Blackout who interrupted the afternoon session for over an hour. The current interruption, caused by a breakdown to an external substation, hit the Sakhir circuit at 3:04 pm (Italian time), when six hours of rehearsals had been completed.

The sudden lack of electricity forced the pilots to return to the pits, while the mechanics found themselves working in the dark, using the torches of their smartphones. After 35 minutes, the race management attempted to resume the session, but the poor visibility made a new interruption necessary. The session resumed regularly only at 16:10 by recording Leclerc’s best time on the Ferrari car.

The interruption caused the Team inconvenience, which have seen their test programming compromised. The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team has ironized on the incident with a tweet depicting a completely black image, accompanied by the caption “scenes live by Bahrain”.

The Sakhir circuit has released an official declaration to explain the causes of the blackout: “A current interruption caused by a breakdown to the external substation paused the afternoon session on the track. The current has been restored and the afternoon session is resumed. We appreciate everyone’s patience“.
