Federmoda against fast fashion: 12 million parcels are circulating without duties

“We are concerned about the effects on economic and environmental sustainability generated byultra fast fashion with an increasingly important turnover taken away from our economy and state coffers. They circulate in the EU approximately every day 12 million parcels worth less than 150 euros, free from duties and often from controls. A distortion that penalizes Italian shops and undermines the competitiveness of Made in Italy fashion companies”. Thus the President of the Italian Fashion Federation-Confcommercio, Giulio Felloni.

The proposal of the Italian Fashion Federation-Confcommercio at the Fashion Table is divided into a package of standards concrete measures to combat the phenomenon of ultra fast fashion and protect the Made in Italy supply chain. Among the main measures: 1) Abolition of duty exemption for non-EU shipments with a value of less than 150 euros; 2) Introduction of a environmental contribution for each shipment from non-EU countries under 150 euros; 3) Extension of the extended producer responsibility regime (EPR) textile also to those who, although producing outside the European Union, sell fashion products in Italy.

“Fashion retail represents not only an economic asset, but also a social presence in urban centers and small municipalities. For this reason – concludes Felloni – we ask consumers to choose quality, long-lasting and responsible productsas an alternative to ‘disposable’ fashion and to Minister Urso the activation of the working group on trade within the Fashion Table, so that it can bring added value to the supply chain, also in relation to the Strategic Plan for Fashion Trade which we will present at the next meeting at MIMIT”.
