Hundreds of mexicans They took to the streets of Morelia (west) this Sunday to demand justice for the murder of the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo Rodríguez, which occurred on Saturday night after a public event.
The demonstration, which began peacefully, led to riots when a group of protesters broke into the state Government Palace and caused damage inside the building with the intention of demanding the resignation of the governor of Michoacán Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla.
The protesters marched from the Aqueduct to the Historic Center of Morelia shouting “The government killed him!”, “Bedolla Out!” and “Morena Out!”, in reference to the governor and the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena).
During the mobilization, called on social networks under the slogan “Enough of abuses and omissions,” attendees demanded an end to violence and impunity in the state, one of the hardest hit by organized crime.
Videos spread on social networks show the moment when several protesters forced the doors of the Government Palace and entered the property, where they threw objects, broke furniture and set fire to part of the interior.
Local media confirmed that the state Executive headquarters was recovered shortly after 6:00 p.m. local time (00:00 GMT on Monday) and that no injuries were reported.
While in Morelia protests were taking place, Uruapan A mass was held for the murdered mayor. According to authorities, one of the alleged attackers was killed after the attack and two people were arrested for their alleged participation in the crime.
This Sunday morning Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, assured that Manzo had federal and municipal protection since 2024, which was reinforced at the beginning of 2025, however, relatives of the mayor assure that the authorities had not given him protection despite the mayor’s claims.

Authorities have identified that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Los Caballeros Templarios, Los Viagras, Pueblos Unidos and Los Blancos de Troya operate in Uruapan.
On October 8, Manzo asked García Harfuch and Sheinbaum not to withdraw the National Guard from the municipality, since the agents had only been in the area for a few days.
