The age limit for the movie Cancel was raised, the director calls the decision arbitrary

The movie Cancel, directed by Tuukka Temonen, has been popular with young people, and it has so far gathered more than 150,000 viewers. Now its age limit was raised from K7 to K12.

The summary is made by artificial intelligence and checked by a human.

The age limit for the movie Cancel directed by Tuukka Temonen was raised from K7 to K12 by the decision of the National Audiovisual Institute.

The film has gathered more than 155,000 viewers and has been especially popular with young people.

Temonen considers the decision arbitrary and plans to appeal it, because according to him the film is a playful fantasy.

A year becoming the fifth most viewed film less than a month after its premiere Cancel-the age limit for the film will be raised, informs the National Audiovisual Institute (Kavi), which is responsible for age limits for films.

The film was originally rated as permitted for people over the age of seven, but now the age limit has been raised to K12.

In its announcement, Kavi says that it has raised the age limit based on public feedback.

“In the film there is quite intense violence presented in an unrealistic and distanced context. The distancing of the violence has been implemented, for example, with an exaggerated comedic presentation, but some of the violence in the film is stronger than what is meant by the age limit 7 classification criteria,” the release states.

HS did not reach Kavi’s representative to comment on the reasons for raising the age limit.

Tuukka Temonen guided by Cancel has been the biggest hit movie of the fall so far.

The film, which premiered in the second week of October, has so far gathered more than 155,000 viewers. It was October’s most watched film in Finland, and in the statistics of the whole year, it is only preceded by those that premiered at the beginning of the year Minecraft movie, 100 liters of sahti, Risto Räppääja and a double being mixed Never alone.

Temonen tells HS that the effort was made to make the film specifically so that it would also be suitable for children under the age of 12. The leading roles in the youth comedy are those known as tubettai Santeri “Santtu” Hänninen, Niko Meuron and Henry “Weksi” Weckströmwho play caricatured versions of themselves.

HS reports earlier in October, that the film has been especially popular with young viewers, which has also caused behavioral disturbances in cinemas. CEO of Kotka movies Tero Lindqvist told HS at the time that most of the film’s viewers had been young people who had come with a group of friends.

Kavin Temonen finds the recent decision unfortunate. He says that he plans to appeal the decision.

According to Temonen, it is clear that the new decision will cause financial harm to both the filmmakers and the cinemas that showed the film.

“It will be a few months and this movie will be available on streaming services. After that, kids of any age will be able to watch this on their devices, so this is giving money from cinemas to Apple and other international players,” says Temonen.

Temonen considers the justification for raising the age limit to be exaggerated.

Cancel is a playful fantasy aimed at young people and children, I don’t think it’s violent or oppressive. The violence seen in the film is in the style of cartoon violence, not real violence in any case.”

Temonen also calls the decision arbitrary.

“The film has been given an age limit once, and then someone else can change it later without any discussion or us being able to influence the matter.”
