The National Ballet arrives in Bruges (Belgium) with the show ‘Afanador’

The National Ballet of Spain which continues its European tour with ‘Afanador’ will pass through the Europalia Festival in the Belgian city of Bruges.

The 30th edition of Europalia It will be dedicated exclusively to Spain with Francisco de Goya as the central figure and highlighting the cultural wealth of Spain through art.

‘Afanador’ premiered in 2023 at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville It was the starting signal for a long series of tours and successes, among which the five awards at the Max Awards, two Thalía Awards and the performances at the Teatro Real (Madrid), Les Arts (Valencia) and the Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona) stand out.

In this new season 25-26, ‘Afanador’ passes through the stages of Austria (St. Pölten), France (Grenable, Cannes, Aix-en-Provence and Paris), Germany (Ludwigsburg) and Spain (Santander and Pamplona).

The work shows photographer Ruven Afanador’s surreal look at flamenco through the language of dance, and encourages the viewer to discover a universe built from fascination and desire. The works of the Colombian artist Afanador, ‘Ángel gitano’ and ‘Mil Besos’, are the starting point to create this show in which Spanish dance joins contemporary dance.

Afanador is an example that the dialogue between different artistic disciplines wins when it is done without prejudice and that Spanish dance will always win from this exchange, without losing its character and its essence.“explained Rubén Olmo, director of the National Ballet of Spain, in a press release from INAEM.
