According to the organization Leket Israel, in the ten years from 2015 to 2024, food worth a total of 211 billion shekels was wasted in Israel.
And while the amount of food wasted per capita has dropped over the years, from 300 kilograms in 2015 to 260 kilograms in 2024, population growth has meant that the total amount of food wasted has increased from 2.5 million tons to 2.6 million tons per year.
At the same time, rising food prices, outpacing inflation, have led to an additional increase in the cost of wasted food from NIS 18 billion in 2015 to NIS 26.2 billion in 2024.
