Paris City Hall will grant honorary citizenship to all residents of the Palestinian territories

The mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Gregoire, said that during the next session of the city council, which will be held in June, a decision will be made to grant honorary citizenship of the French capital to citizens of “Palestine”.

“As in the case of Kiev and Nagorno-Karabakh, Paris stands up for the rights and gives a voice to those who suffer in defense of peace, international law and the two-state principle,” he said. It is separately noted that Palestinian journalists will also receive honorary citizenship.

“The very name of Paris has always been associated with freedom and dignity. Our city chooses civilians over violence, law over arbitrariness, life over destruction. This is also a response to the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza and the provocations of Itamar Ben-Gvir,” says the mayor’s office.

Gregoire is a representative of the Socialist Party. The coalition he heads also includes the Greens and the Communists. The decision is symbolic.
