Florentino Pérez gives Pope Leo XIV a Real Madrid shirt

This Monday at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, during a meeting with the diocesan community of Madrid, Pope Leo XIV received a Real Madrid shirt with his name from the president of the white club, Florentino Pérez.

The newly elected president of the Madrid entity presented the Supreme Pontiff with a team shirt personalized with his first name, Robert F. Prevost, and the number 1, as well as a replica of the stadium. Pope Leo XIV, for his part, presented a medal to Florentino Pérez.

During his flight to Spain, Leo XIV assured that for Robert Prevost the favorite Spanish team is Real Madrid, although he clarified that the pope “is one of all the teams.”

The Pope participated in this meeting organized by the diocesan Church of Madrid and the dioceses of Alcalá de Henares and Getafe, which represent parishes, movements, consecrated life, priests and pastoral agents.

Some 70,000 people received the Supreme Pontiff in the white enclosure. More than 24,000 faithful from parishes, more than 7,000 from associations, brotherhoods and movements, another 7,000 from educational communities and around 4,000 from consecrated life and the clergy, along with bishops, authorities and representatives of Real Madrid completed the capacity.

The lawn of the white coliseum was divided into hexagons in which representatives of different realities of the Church were placed: coordinators of pastoral councils, priests, consecrated life and young people. A trapeze welcomed about 800 people from the migrant, social pastoral and Cáritas delegations. On the central stage, the Pontiff was surrounded by a hundred people from the different realities of the Church of Madrid.
