Lebanon is on the brink of civil war because of Hezbollah’s actions against Israel

The picture of the situation in the streets of Beirut reflects a chilling social polarization. While in the prestigious area of ​​Zaitonai Bay, the rich still spend time in luxury restaurants and yachts near the “Four Seasons” hotel, a stone’s throw away, hundreds of refugee families, mainly Shiites but also Palestinians and Syrians, are forced to sleep on the sidewalks. At the nearby Sunni “Al-Kantari” mosque, they decided to open the doors to refugees, but the imam of the mosque shared with the “Wall Street Journal” the complex reality: many worshipers are angry at the admission of people associated with the organization that brought disaster to Lebanon. According to him, unprecedented voices are now being heard in the Sunni street, expressing open support for the war that Israel is waging against Hezbollah and the Shiites in general.

In the Christian areas, the tension translates into firearms. After an Israeli attack in the Christian town of Ein Saada accidentally hit a senior member of the “Lebanese Forces” party, armed Christians were seen at his funeral shooting into the air as a warning sign, and Shiite families were immediately evicted from their apartments in the area. In these streets, the giant portraits of Bashir Jumail returned to adorn the walls, as a living and threatening reminder of the days of the civil war of 1975-1990.
