General Secretary and President To Lam received leaders of Laos, Cambodia and Thailand

General Secretary and President To Lam on June 9 received the Prime Ministers of Laos, Cambodia and Thailand, on the occasion of the leaders visiting Vietnam and attending AFF 2026.

General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed in meetings that Vietnam values ​​friendly relations and cooperation with neighboring countries and partners in the region, and emphasized the role of ASEAN in maintaining peace, stability and promoting development, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Talking to Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, the General Secretary and President proposed that the two countries continue to strengthen political trust, maintain high-level delegation exchanges, promote defense and security cooperation and make economic cooperation a real pillar of bilateral relations. He emphasized the need to move from “good cooperation” to “effective cooperation”, taking the practical interests of the two peoples as a measure.

The two sides agreed to prioritize promoting strategic cooperation projects in transportation, energy, agriculture and digital transformation, including infrastructure connection projects between the two countries. Vietnam and Laos will coordinate to prepare activities to celebrate the 65th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations and the 50th anniversary of signing the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in 2027.

Receiving Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, General Secretary and President To Lam highly appreciated the development of Vietnam – Cambodia relations over the past time, along with the results of cooperation in the fields of defense, security, trade and people-to-people exchanges.

The General Secretary and President emphasized that the three-party and three-country relationship between Vietnam – Cambodia – Laos is a valuable asset of all three countries, and proposed promoting the effectiveness of cooperation mechanisms, including the tripartite meeting mechanism at the levels of Prime Minister, Defense Minister, Minister of Public Security and Foreign Minister.

Mr. Hun Manet affirmed that Cambodia values ​​and wishes to continue to deepen relations with Vietnam. The two sides share a vision on the role of science and technology in economic development and prioritize improving the quality of cooperation between the two and three countries.

Vietnam – Cambodia leaders agreed to organize activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027, strengthen education of the young generation about the historical significance of bilateral relations, and continue to coordinate closely at regional and international forums.

During a meeting with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, General Secretary and President To Lam highly appreciated the significance of the visit, which took place in the year commemorating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand, and expressed confidence that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries will continue to develop more deeply and substantially.

The General Secretary and President proposed that the two sides strengthen political trust, expand economic cooperation, defense – security and people-to-people exchanges, and effectively maintain existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul affirmed that Thailand always considers Vietnam a close neighbor and trusted partner. He said the two countries will promote cooperation in the fields of economic connection, infrastructure, logistics, supply chain, science and technology, digital transformation and artificial intelligence, continuing to coordinate closely in ASEAN, the United Nations, APEC and Mekong sub-region cooperation mechanisms.

At the meetings, leaders of Vietnam and other countries emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, stability, strengthening ASEAN solidarity and enhancing coordination to respond to common challenges of the region and the world.
