Invoices for travel on Route 6 will be sent to your mobile phone

The Knesset Economic Committee has approved new regulations changing the procedure for sending out toll bills on the Trans-Israel Highway (Route 6).

Three months after the regulations come into force, highway operators will be able to send toll bills not only by mail, but also by SMS message to a mobile phone or by email.

The approved procedure stipulates that the transition to a digital distribution option will be voluntary and solely on the initiative of the driver.

Every month, concessionaire companies send out about 175 thousand invoices for travel to drivers without a travel pass, but about 47% of them are not paid on time. When payment is late, collection fees are assessed and the debt often grows to significant amounts, especially in cases where the driver did not receive the bill on time or was unaware of the debt due to an out-of-date address or mail delivery failures.

Under the new mechanism, drivers will be able to connect to the system in advance and receive an invoice directly to their mobile phone or to their specified email address. However, digital delivery will be considered valid only after receiving confirmation that the message has been read. If such confirmation is not received, the system will make repeated attempts to send, and in cases where the fact of delivery remains unconfirmed, the invoice will be additionally sent by regular mail to avoid ignorance and accumulation of debt.

In addition, to encourage digitalization, there is a discount on the collection fee of about two shekels.
