Al-Sharq al-Awsat: Palestinian factions agreed to mothball Hamas weapons

According to the publication Al-Sharq al-Awsat, at the negotiations in Cairo, Palestinian groups, including Hamas, generally agreed with the mediators’ proposal to withdraw weapons from operational use and collect them in one place for storage.

The groups insist that the weapons cannot be destroyed or transferred to Israel, and that the Palestinian side must be responsible for their storage.

The collection of weapons should be carried out in stages according to an agreed schedule and only after the complete retreat of the Israeli army from the occupied territories.

According to sources familiar with the negotiations, the details of the agreement will be finalized in the next “hours or days”, after which Israel and the United States will have the floor.
