Macbook, iPad ‘made in Vietnam’ will be produced in Bac Giang

The fact that Foxconn – Apple’s manufacturing partner – assembles tablets and laptops in Vietnam is mentioned in the report proposing the granting of an environmental license for phase 2 of the Fukang Technology Factory project sent to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

According to this report, some Macbook and iPad assembly lines have been completed, but additional exhaust treatment systems need to be installed. The new installation items are carried out at the request of the customer – Apple Corporation and need to apply for environmental permits from the management agency.

Previously, in February, this project received a license to produce tablets, laptops, and electronic motherboards from the competent authority. Raw materials for the production of the above products will be imported from China, the US, Japan, and South Korea. Raw materials originating from Vietnam include screws, front lenses, etc.

The Fukang Technology factory project (owned by Foxconn) in Quang Chau Industrial Park, Bac Giang province, with an investment capital of more than VND 12,507 billion, was granted its first investment registration certificate in January 2021. The project has an installation and processing capacity of about 16.1 million tablets and laptops per year.

Foxconn is the world’s largest Taiwanese electronics and computer components manufacturer. They are a key link in the production chain of Apple devices, especially the iPhone.

The group is in the process of shifting investment and expanding production in Vietnam. In June, at a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Mr. Brand Cheng – CEO of Foxconn Industrial Internet (part of Foxconn) said that the group’s factories were present in 5 provinces and cities of Vietnam, with 80,000 employees and a total investment of about 4 billion USD.

In another report sent to Bac Giang province, Foxconn said it “sees Vietnam as a potential market, with a stable investment environment and favorable investment procedures”. Foxconn also said it wants to expand investment in Bac Giang, based on the group’s strategy of moving out of China and the actual needs of major customers”.

Foxconn began building factories in Bac Ninh, Bac Giang and several other provinces in Vietnam in March 2007 and produces a wide range of products, from computers, information technology, consumer electronics, auto parts to semiconductor devices. In early July 2024, the group received an investment license for two projects to produce game consoles and smart entertainment products in Quang Ninh province, with a total capital of 551 million USD.
