Google files EU antitrust complaint against Microsoft

Google has filed a complaint with the European Commission against what it called anti-competitive practices by Microsoft to lock customers into Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform. Google, whose biggest rivals in cloud computing are Microsoft and Amazon Web Services, said Microsoft exploits its Windows Server operating system to impede competition.

“We believe this action with the regulator is the only way to end Microsoft’s lock-in, allow customers to have choice, and create a level playing field for competitors,” Amit said. Zavery, general manager and vice president of the Google Cloud platform, during a press conference.

And he underlined: “Microsoft’s software licensing terms prevent European organizations from moving their current workloads from Azure (Microsoft’s cloud platform, ed.) to competing clouds,” Google said in a statement.
