From prison to construction site: prisoners in Maasiyahu prison are taught construction skills

The Directorate of Prisons (Shabat) has launched a pilot program at Maasiyahu Prison to train inmates in construction trades, which will enable them to find work upon release.

The initiator of the program was the construction company BR. The first 12 inmates graduated from the pilot program last week with 100 hours of training, including blueprint reading and hands-on work, The Marker reported.

The Bureau of Prisons said it plans to roll out the program in other prisons.

Prisoners who have less than six months left before their release can take part in the course.

The program is not intended for prisoners serving sentences for serious crimes such as murder, rape, domestic violence, pedophilia, etc.
