MG Cyberster car sales start in Finland

An electric convertible from a brand that few people still know is coming to Finland. We plan to sell twenty of them next year.

Car brand In Finland, MG starts selling an exceptionally electric convertible.

The MG Cyberster is a two-seater sports car whose four-wheel drive version accelerates from 0 to 100 in 3.2 seconds. It has “scissor doors”, meaning they open straight up.

“We have a goal of selling 20 of these in Finland next year. It doesn’t really have any competitors. It looks sweet in that price range, so 20 is a very realistic goal,” the country manager tells HS Jon Höckerstedt Hedin from MG Finland.

Such fully electric cars are still rare. The most famous competitor is probably Tesla’s Roadster, which the American company produced in its early days. It’s getting an update, but the Chinese MG got there first.

MG is a new old brand that came to Finland a little over a year ago. It was a British car company whose brand was bought by the Chinese and retooled to sell electric and hybrid cars.

The company attracted attention undercutting their MG4 cars momentarily the cheapest electric car in Finland at around 28,000 euros.

A new convertible costs around 67,000–72,000 euros, depending on whether you get rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Why does a brand that offered basic cars make such a change of direction?

Höckerstedt says he understands the point, but in his opinion, the money buys “a lot of cars”. It’s hard to find comparisons, but according to preliminary information, Tesla’s upcoming updated Roadster will cost at least 200,000 dollars, or about 180,000 euros.

Auto introduced against the budding winter buds. Who in Finland buys Cyberster?

“Based on the first customers who contacted us, some of them would like to take the car as a summer car and want delivery in the spring. It suggests that it would be the second or third car in the garage,” says Höckerstedt.

“On the other hand, a few have asked about winter tires.”

There is no need to drive the car on snow slopes, because it has an electrically openable or closed roof.

Under the hood you will find numbers that are correct by the standards of modern electric cars. The battery is 77 kilowatt-hours, with which you should reach 443–507 kilometers depending on the driving method.

MG is a sign that concerns The EU’s heaviest punitive tariffs. The EU imposed tariffs on Chinese companies because, in the EU’s opinion, they receive state aid that distorts competition.

In the case of MG, the price level of the cars is determined by the parent company SAIC, which is subject to customs duties, instead of the Finns. In the domestic market in China, the price of a convertible with four-wheel drive is around 46,000 euros, says the Motortrend publication.

Four Cybersters have already been shipped to Finland, and it is possible to start deliveries to buyers “soon,” according to Höckerstedt.

According to the September statistics, there were 1,351 fully electric MGs in Finland.
