Rutte: Russia can attack NATO countries within 5 years

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte Has warned Russia’s threat for a long time, but on Monday he said in London as he held at the Chatham House Research Institute in speechthat “Russia may be ready to night against NATO within five years.”

“Putin’s war machine is accelerating – not slowing down,” Rutte said.

According to NATO’s Secretary -General, Russia is renewing its troops’ abilities with Chinese technology and producing weapons faster than before.

“For ammunition, Russia is able to produce what NATO produces a year in three months,” Rutte said.

According to him, the Russian defense industry is expected to produce 1,500 tanks, 3,000 armored vehicles and 200 Iskander missiles this year.

In addition, Russia is allied with China, North Korea and Iran, all of which expand their armies and strengthen their performance.

The NATO Secretary -General reminded that Russia’s threat concerns the entire NATO, not just the country of the union’s eastern edge.

“We are now all on the eastern side of NATO.”

According to Rutte, Russia’s new generation missiles run at multiple speed speeds, whereby the distance between European capital is only a matter of minutes.

In his speech, he also told about the growing power of China.

China already has the world’s largest fleet and Rutte says its battle troops are expected to rise to 435 ships by 2030.

China also strengthens its nuclear arsenal.

“The goal is to have more than 1,000 ready -to -use nuclear tips by 2030,” Rutte said.

Prepare for war

According to NATO’s Secretary -General, history teaches that you need to prepare for war to preserve peace. Therefore, at the end of June, Rutte expects that at the NATO Summit in the Hague, all Member States will commit to a 5 % defense expenditure target in relation to GDP.

NATO’s new 5 % defense plan plan is divided into two parts, of which 3.5 % will be invested in direct military needs and the remaining 1.5 % will go into defense and security investments. According to Rutte, they include strengthening infrastructure and defense capacity, for example.

Raising NATO’s defense expenditure to five percent has been especially US President Donald Trump The goal, and it has previously been considered partly unrealistic.

Now, however, it seems that all 32 member countries of the union could agree to achieve the goal in the next decade.

Rutte assured Monday that 5 % is not about any fan of wind.

“The fact is that we need a quantum jump in our joint defense. The fact is that we must have more troops and capabilities to fulfill our defense plans. The fact is that the danger will not disappear even if the war in Ukraine ends,” Rutte said.

NATO’s exact defense and battle plans are secret, but according to Rutte, for example, an increase in air and missile defense in NATO countries requires an increase of 400 %.

“Our army also needs thousands of armored vehicles and tanks” and millions of artillery ammunition, he listed.

NATO’s Secretary-General also said that the US allies planned to acquire a total of at least 700 F-35 fighter jets.

In addition, NATO countries intend to invest in droons and space and cyber abilities.
