The EU is calling for tough emission reductions – this is how the energy industry is responsible

In its update of the Climate Act, the European Commission will propose 90 % emission reductions by 2040 from the 1990 level, Energy Industry AssociationThe bulletin shows.

The new set target is in line with the Paris Climate Convention, the release states. The recent presentation of the Commission complements the existing Climate Act in addition to the 2030 target.

The Commission’s proposal is a step more sustainable and environmentally friendly for the future, and the energy industry considers the presentation good.

According to the release, power and heat production must, in practice, be almost emission-free in the EU by 2040, but in Finland the goal will be achieved by 2030.

According to the Energy Industry Bulletin, the implementation of the objectives requires a wide range of means: including significant measures to clean traffic and industry by electrifying cars and factories.

Carbon dioxide recovery, bioenergy, throat growth and extensive investments in emission -free production are also needed in the same way.

“Finland is well prepared to implement ambitious climate policy and grow into an increasingly significant investment destination. Our electricity is clean and nets are international comparisons, both efficient and affordable, CEO of the Energy Industry Association Jukka Leskelä says.

However, according to Leskelä, additional investments are sorely needed to achieve Finland’s climate target and ensure energy availability in the future.

“This requires a wise policy from the government, the investment environment must be in good condition that carbon neutrality is our success factor,” Leskelä says.
