Trade negotiations with the USA: Israel asks to make an exception for 13 products

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took the side of the ministries of agriculture and economics in their dispute with the Department of Finance regarding the demand of the United States on the abolition of duties for the import of agricultural products.

In this regard, Israel will ask the United States to reduce duties on import 13 products in stages in order to prevent the collapse of these branches of agriculture in the country.

According to the Ynet portal, powder milk, solid cheeses, frozen vegetables, almonds, corn starch, frozen potato chips, grape juice, frozen chicken, eggs, medical, fresh potatoes, carrots, battles, humus, popcorn, apples, pears, cherries and sunflower seeds were included in the list.

Recall that earlier the Israeli government decided to cancel duties on the import of agricultural products from the United States in order to mitigate the duties introduced by US President Donald Trump for the import of Israeli products.

The duty of 17% should be introduced on July 9, if the parties do not agree on a new trade agreement.

Despite this, in the Ministry of Agriculture they tried to achieve the preservation of Israeli duties on American products, offering in return to sharply increase the purchase of American wheat and feed, which are much more expensive than purchased in Europe. Ynet reports that this proposal was rejected, despite the support of the Minister of Economics, Nir Barkat.
