Epic Games, best known for Fortnitefound that Google abused its dominant position by requiring developers of apps for its Android mobile operating system to use the Play Store. Google then charged developers high commissions of up to 30 percent on purchases through its app store.
In December 2023, a jury ruled in favor of Epic Games, after which a judge ruled last year that Google must give competitors more space in the Play Store. In July this year, Google lost another case on appeal, against which it once again filed an opposition. Now the years of legal battle is finally coming to an end. Financial details of the agreement, which must still receive a formal green light from a judge, are not known.
Sameer Samat, responsible for Android at Google, said in a message on social networking site Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney welcomed “a great proposal from Google” on X.
