AGI – In May, it is estimated that the national consumer price index for the entire community, gross of tobaccos, will register a zero variation on a monthly basis and an increase on an annual basis of 1.3% ( from + 1.1% of the previous month), confirming the preliminary estimate. Istat notes it.
The tendential acceleration of inflation is essentially due to the prices of energy goods, whose growth went from + 9.8% in April to + 13.8% due to the prices of the non-regulated component (which accelerated from +6.6 % to + 12.6%) while those of the regulated component continue to record a strong but stable increase (+ 16.8% as in April). This trend is only partially offset by the slowdown in the prices of recreational, cultural and personal care services, whose growth (+ 0.7% in April) is zero.
The “core inflation”, net of energy and fresh food, and that net of energy goods only decelerate further, albeit slightly, and both go up to + 0.2% (from + 0.3% of April). The zero cyclical variation of the general index is due to opposite dynamics: on the one hand, the growth in the prices of non-regulated energy goods (+ 1.1%) and unprocessed food (+ 1.0%), from other, the decrease in the prices of recreational, cultural and personal care services (-0.8%). The inflation acquired for 2021 is equal to + 1.2% for the general index and + 0.5% for the core component.
The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) decreases by 0.1% on a monthly basis (the preliminary estimate was of zero change) and increases on an annual basis by 1.2% (from + 1.0% in the month previous one); the preliminary estimate was + 1.3%. The national consumer price index for blue-collar and white-collar households (FOI), net of tobacco, recorded a decline of 0.1% on a monthly basis and an increase of 1.3% on an annual basis.
