“Class in Action” should stimulate educational enrichment in Dutch-speaking Brussels schools

With the subsidy, worth a total of 785,060 euros, Brussels schools can supplement the curriculum with educational activities in collaboration with external partners. The subsidy is available for both primary and secondary education. Schools can use the resources to attend a lecture, for example, or take a class to school plays. Sports, music or even educational STEM projects are also possible.

Two-thirds of the total budget is intended for Dutch-speaking primary schools. In this way, young people are encouraged at an early age to get involved in culture or sports after school, while at the same time the maximum bill for parents is respected. In total, more than 143 primary schools and 38 secondary schools are using the extra resources.

“These activities and partnerships with external organizations ensure that a piece of the world is brought into school time,” says De Smedt. “They provide an important learning experience, inspiration and variety, and help create a positive learning climate.”
