After the court ruling, the Hungarian government is obliged to announce a contract for the construction of the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway section through Hungary, which, according to the interlocutors of the Vojvodina Research and Analytical Center (VOICE), is extremely unfavorable for citizens and the budget. close to Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

VOICE’s interlocutors from Hungary warned that the price of the section from the border with Serbia to Budapest, 166 kilometers long, could reach around two billion euros, of which as much as 85 percent is from a loan from a Chinese bank.

As the media reported in May last year, according to a law passed by the Hungarian parliament at the time, the details of the agreement must remain secret for the next 10 years, explaining the decision. national interests “.

Political scientist Silard Janos Toth told VOICE that, according to expert calculations, it will take 130 years to earn the money invested on the railway.

“Corruption is an additional problem. It is already known that one of the important contractors will be a company that can be tied to Lerinac Mesaros, a businessman known as Orban’s right hand man,” Toth said.

Opposition member of the Hungarian parliament Bernadet Sel told VOICE that the mentioned investment is problematic for several reasons, and that the main problem is that it is completely irrational economically.

“Besides, the construction works have not even started yet, but Mesaros has already picked up a lot of cream on the project last year: according to the contract with MAV (Hungarian Railways), Mesaros’ company received 10%, about 32.2 billion forints as an advance. The whole project serves only the interests of Chinese and pro-government circles, but not Hungarian taxpayers, “said Bernadette Sel.

VOICE reminded that on December 23, 2015, the then Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said in Novi Sad that the citizens of Serbia would be able to use the modernized Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway from 2018.

However, the railway has not been completed yet, and the end of the works has been postponed on several occasions, so Vučić’s announcement that the work will be completed by 2024 is currently current, reminds VOICE ( //
