La Jornada: Mercado Libre will invest in the country this year a historic figure of 4.6 billion dollars

The e-commerce and financial services platform Mercado Libre announced yesterday that this year it will invest 4.6 billion dollars in Mexico, an unprecedented figure since it began operations here.

The amount is 35 percent higher than what was invested in 2025, and will be used to strengthen its logistics and digital system and to improve the financial services platform.

“This historic figure reaffirms Mercado Libre’s commitment to the development of the country,” the company said in a statement.

He specified that the $4.6 billion includes both capital investment and operating expenses. Likewise, it contemplates strengthening the positioning of its brands and foresees the creation of 8,500 new jobs.

The jobs, it was specified, will be focused on strengthening logistics operations, in addition to positions in business and corporate areas in both Mercado Libre and Mercado Pago. Thus, at the end of the year, there will be a total of more than 42 thousand workers in our country.

“More than a record figure, this reflects our commitment to continue leading the transformation of the Mexican digital ecosystem. We strengthen our logistics infrastructure, the innovations and financial solutions that we offer and that allow millions of Mexicans, entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized businesses to grow, and to guarantee our users the best of experiences,” said David Geisen, general director of Mercado Libre México.

The platform detailed that in the last six years, when including the amount projected for 2026, it will have invested more than 14 billion dollars in the country, consolidating its operation as one of the main engines of growth in the region.

Mexico, he deepened, is the second most important market for Mercado Libre in Latin America and the main source of income for 45 percent of Mexican small and medium-sized companies that operate in its marketplace.
