Borrell also spoke about peace initiatives. “We support Ukraine’s initiative to establish a just peace,” he said. “We will continue to support this proposal on its merits in order to ensure the greatest possible global support. To do this, we will insist on two main aspects: the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in internationally recognized borders and its inalienable right to self-defence. Thirdly, it is necessary to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. Russia is on the side of the war, on the side of violations of international law. Ukraine stands for peace and takes appropriate initiatives.”
