PKS: The second Šumadija brandy festival on December 11 in Kragujevac
Kragujevac will host the “Second Šumadija Brandy Festival” which will bring together fruit brandy producers from all over Serbia on December 11, 2021, with the aim of promoting and presenting new customers, primarily the hotel and catering (HOREKA) sector, wholesalers and specialty stores. drinks, it was announced today at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (SCC).According to the PKS, the event is organized by the Regional Association of Brandy Producers “Šumadijska rakija” and the Tourist Organization of Kragujevac, with the support of the PKS and the regional chambers of commerce of the Šumadija and Pomoravlje administrative districts.

According to the data of the Republic Bureau of Statistics, the production of natural brandies has been growing steadily in the past five years, and in 2020, compared to 2019, it amounts to 25.6 percent. The number of registered producers is increasing from year to year, so that currently about 820 distilleries are registered in the Register kept by the Ministry of Agriculture, twice as many as in 2015, when the Law on Strong Alcoholic Beverages was passed.

“The Serbian economy has realized its chance in this sector, and PKS is turning to more and more interested people for information on the procedure of registration of this production,” said the secretary of the Association for Plant Production and Food Industry PKS Aleksandar Bogunovic.

The constant growth of the export of fruit brandies is also noticeable, and in the first nine months of 2021, compared to the same period last year, it increased by about 60 percent and its value amounts to 7.8 million euros. Most fruit brandies are exported to Croatia, USA, Germany, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but producers are also conquering new markets such as Iceland, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Malta, Cyprus …

PKS, through the work of the Group of Producers of Strong Alcoholic Beverages and the Section of Producers of Strong Alcoholic Beverages of the Šumadija and Pomoravlje Administrative Districts, supports producers and helps them in promotion both on the domestic and foreign markets.

In cooperation with the Development Agency of Serbia, the Chamber is organizing the appearance of distilleries at the National Stand at the upcoming international fair of wine and alcoholic beverages “PROWEIN” which will be held in Dusseldorf from March 27 to 29, 2022, Bogunovic reminded.

“Manufacturers of spirits have recognized the Chamber as their association that can provide them with business and professional support and represent their business interests in the right way.

The export of strong alcoholic beverages in the first nine months of this year, from the Sumadija and Pomoravlje administrative districts, reached 473,000 euros, which is an increase of 20.4 percent compared to the same period last year, “said the director of PKS-RPK Sumadija and Pomoravlje administrative districts. The Šumadija Brandy Festival is one of the activities launched with the aim of developing and promoting the tourist potential of the “Šumadija Brandy Tour” for the protected product “Šumadija Plum brandy”.

With the purchased ticket, visitors will be able to evaluate the best brandies of the Festival, said Emina Dramlić from the Tourist Organization of Kragujevac.

The president of the “Šumadijska rakija” association, Goran Mijailović, announced that awards for the best brandies that participated in the Third Quality Assessment of Fruit Brandy at the end of November will be presented at the Festival, and more than 60 samples were evaluated.
