Ukraine: Wheat price rises to record high

The price for a ton of corn reached 304 euros on Thursday. The record was set at the beginning of August 2021 with 320 euros per ton.

Analyst Sébastien Poncelet from Agritel said the consequences of the Russian invasion for the prices of agricultural goods are not yet foreseeable. “But if you see the explosions in Odessa, Ukraine’s main port, you can assume that not much grain is being loaded there today.”

“Other scope”

After Russia invaded Crimea in 2014, grain prices rose by 15 to 20 percent, Poncelet recalled. Four to five months later they dropped again. But Crimea and Donbass are not important agricultural regions – “what you see today has a completely different scope”.
