Olkiluoto’s problem seems to be short-term – This is how TVO assesses the continuation of electricity production

The Power of Industry (TVO) has announced to the Nordpool electricity exchange that the Olkiluoto triple reactor would start full production again on Wednesday 22 November. one o’clock in the morning. The reactor’s electricity production was suspended on Sunday evening.

According to the announcement, the power plant would start producing electricity at 1285 megawatts already on Tuesday at 12 o’clock.

If this happens, the decommissioning of the nuclear power plant will be concretely reflected in the price of electricity only on Tuesday, because tomorrow’s electricity will be sold in Nordpool by 2 p.m. today.

Teollisuuden Voima’s communications manager I am Johanna says that the company will immediately inform about the fault of the turbine plant, when the matter is known in more detail. He does not speculate on the cause of the failure, but emphasizes that it is not a problem similar to last spring’s trial run, but specifically a failure that occurred during use.

By this, Aho means that during test use one should always find, and usually find, bigger things to improve. “Runtime errors are usually about the smallest problems.”

This seems to have happened with Olkiluoto 3 now, because the power plant is supposed to be put into production during tomorrow’s Tuesday.

After years of problems and delays, the plant, which finally started regular electricity production in the spring of this year, is running normally Fingrid’s due to the restrictions set by the company, with a power of about 1540–1560 megawatts.

Olkiluoto’s second reactor stopped for weeks in August due to a fault in the generator’s cooling system. At the same time, there were other things that limited electricity production and transmission capacity, which together fluctuated the price of electricity on the stock market at that time.

Correction 20.11. at 11.35 am: Corrected information in TVO’s announcement. Full production would start on Wednesday at one in the morning, not Thursday. The power plant would gradually start producing electricity on Tuesday from 12 o’clock.
