The White House has criticized Elon Musk, owner of the social network X, for his “abhorrent promotion” of anti-Semitism. According to a White House spokesperson, this “promotion of anti-Semitism and racist hatred is condemned in the strongest possible terms because it goes against the core values of Americans.”
Musk recently responded affirmatively to a post on X that “Jews are fueling hatred of whites.” He added the comment: “You speak the truth.”
“We have a responsibility to unite people against hate and an obligation to speak out against anyone who attacks the dignity of our fellow Americans and undermines the safety of our communities,” the White House spokesperson said. He called it “unacceptable that such lies are being spread.” According to the White House, Musk’s comments are particularly damaging given the increase in anti-Semitic incidents since the war between Israel and Hamas.
Ads suspended
More and more companies and organizations are now suspending their advertisements on X to protest against the increasing disinformation and hate messages on the social media platform. This is the case, among others, for the European Commission, IBM, Lions Gate Entertainment and, according to media reports, also Apple.
Investors in Tesla have also been critical of Musk because the reputation of the car brand could be damaged. Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz is even calling on the billionaire to resign as Tesla CEO.
