Smotrich announced a reduction in budget cuts for youth organizations

Mass protest against the Ministry of Finance’s planned cuts in government funding for teenage and youth organizations seems to have had an effect: at the beginning of a meeting of the Knesset Finance Committee, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced a review of this decision.

According to Smotrich, funding cuts will still be made, but they will not be as significant as expected: instead of 10 million shekels, the budget of youth organizations will be reduced by only 1 million.

As Srugim notes, the adjusted draft state budget for 2024, adopted in the first reading last week, provided, among other things, for a reduction in funding for youth organizations by 10 million shekels.

The leaders of these organizations stated that the deprivation of state support actually means the liquidation of teenage and youth movements in Israel, including such well-known and popular among teenagers as Bnei Akiva, Tzofim and others.
