Economic Policy Committee supports leasing of LNG terminal ship together with Estonia – Lintilä: “An effective way to secure gas supply for our industry”

At today’s meeting, the government’s Economic Policy Committee advocated measures to lease a large LNG terminal in co-operation with Estonia. The lease of the terminal vessel will enable Finland to break out of its dependence on Russian pipeline gas.

Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä (kesk) says in a press release that as a result of the war in Ukraine, Finland must also prepare for the disruption of gas imports.

“The floating LNG terminal is an effective way to secure the gas supply of our industry, among other things. I would like to thank the Estonian government for its seamless cooperation, ”says Lintilä.

The Ministry of Employment and the Economy, in co-operation with the Ministry of Finance and the Estonian Ministry of Energy, will continue to prepare for the leasing of the LNG terminal vessel and will submit the charter proposal to the Economic Policy Committee for approval.

According to the release, the Ministry of Finance will issue a gas transmission network company Gasgrid Finlandille to investigate and negotiate in co-operation with the Estonian transmission system operator Elering AS: n with the terms of the LNG terminal vessel lease and implement the project as soon as possible, in particular to ensure security of supply.
