Estonia bans sale of cannabis oils marketed as cosmetics – in fact, light cannabis products have also been eaten

Light cannabis products, such as cbd oil, are considered novel foods in the European Union. The use of novel foods is not permitted without a novel food authorization and has not yet been authorized for cbd products.

Man bans the sale of light cannabis products, including CBD oils, the country’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food said in a statement.

The decision is based on EU novel food legislation. Cannabinoid products are considered to be novel foods that cannot be used without a novel food authorization. To date, no novel food authorization has been granted for any cbd product.

Light cannabis refers to the inflorescence of a hemp plant with only a small amount of intoxicating tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC.

However, products made from light cannabis may contain more cannabidiol, or cbd, which is said to have a calming and relaxing effect.

Just Uncertainty about the status of CBD products has made it possible to sell them in Estonia. After 2019, several stores focusing on light cannabis products have been established in Tallinn, among other places.

The shops have toured the legal jungle by marketing products such as ornaments or cosmetics.

The new ban applies to all cbd products that may have been used as food, including cbd products for animals.

According to the Ministry, the ban also applies to oils and extracts marketed for external use, since, although they have been advertised as cosmetics, these products have in fact also been used internally.

The Estonian Food Administration has already started a monitoring round to remove banned products from light cannabis shops.

“We have informed all sellers of light cannabis products about the ban on the marketing of illegal foods. If the sales ban is violated, the agency has the right to impose a fine of up to 9,600 euros on the seller, ”says the leading expert of the Food Agency. Airika Salumets.

It is not permitted to sell extracts or foods containing cbd in Finland.
