Russia will suspend the payment of pensions to those living abroad who do not have an account in a Russian bank

The Government of the Russian Federation allowed the Pension Fund to pay pensions to citizens permanently residing abroad in Russian rubles.

Payments will only be made to accounts in Russian banks, so payments to those who do not have such an account will be suspended.

To resume payments, it will be necessary to notify the pension fund in writing or electronically about opening an account with a Russian bank and indicate its details.

One of the largest groups of recipients of Russian pensions lives in Israel. There is an agreement between the countries dated 2016, according to which the Pension Fund transfers money to the Israeli National Insurance Institute (Bituah Leumi), which is already crediting pensions to the recipients’ accounts. After the invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine, Bituah Leumi and the Ministry of Finance agreed that Russian pensions for the first quarter would be transferred to recipients from the funds of the Ministry of Finance, and when the Russian pension fund manages to transfer money to Bituah Leumi, it will return the money received to the state treasury. Whether the same scheme will operate in the second quarter is currently unknown.
