Rosatom considers termination of Fennovoima’s Hanhikivi 1 project illegal – Demands compensation

Russian state-owned nuclear power company Rosatomin subsidiary RAOS Prjocect hakee From Fennovoima compensation for the termination of the Hanhikivi 1 project. According to the RAOS Project, the termination is illegal and the grounds contradict the actual status of the project and Fennovoima’s previous statements.

On Monday, Fennovoima terminated its plant supply agreement with the RAOS Project for the Pyhäjoki nuclear power plant. According to Fennovoima, the termination is due to RAOS Project’s significant delays and inability to implement the Hanhikivi 1 project. According to Fennovoima, the war in Ukraine has also exacerbated the risks of the project.

In a press release sent on Friday, the RAOS Project says it is very disappointed with the decision. The company admits the project was delayed, but considers the delay for the nuclear power plant construction project to be normal.

“The decision of the Finnish partners to close the Hanhikivi-1 nuclear power plant project is politically motivated and does not comply with the principles of a market economy,” the company reports.

The Hanhikivi 1 reactor pressure vessel was to be forged at the Kramatorsk plant in Ukraine. The RAOS Project says it has explored other options as well and is ready to discuss relaunching the project.
