A securities account is required for a savings bond, but the product is more liquid than a term account because you can sell the savings bond to the bank early.

BNP Paribas Fortis had a promotion running for Wednesday with one-, two- and five-year savings certificates, with a gross yield of 2.90 percent. That promotion was ended early – for the buyers of one- and two-year savings certificates there will be compensation and the new interest rate will apply, says the spokeswoman.

The government will pay out the 22.5 billion euros on Wednesday, but at the same time it will issue a new government bond, with a term of one and ten years and a gross interest rate of 2.75 and 2.80 percent respectively. Registration is possible until 12 September.
