Lawyers for the FreshMarket chain of stores and lawyers for the chain’s employees, from whom the money missing from the cash register at the end of the day was collected, submitted a compromise agreement reached as part of the settlement of a representative claim to the court for approval.
As part of the agreement, FreshMarket will fully refund the cashiers the money collected from them over the past 7 years. With interest and adjusted for inflation, the refund will amount to 530,000 shekels. The money will be automatically credited to the accounts of the employees whose data the chain has, and the rest will be asked to provide data for the transfer of money.
The cashier who filed the representative claim will also receive 30,000 shekels. In addition, as a penalty, the chain will distribute coupons worth 100,000 shekels among the cashiers currently working in the chain.
The lawyer’s fee will be paid separately and will amount to 99 thousand shekels.
This is the first precedent on this issue. A representative lawsuit was also filed against the Victory chain, and journalistic investigations have shown that other retail chains are using similar practices.
