Rosalía and Ralphie Choo give a nod to Morente’s flamenco in the “sentimental” ‘Omega’

Rosalia and Ralphie Choo (Ciudad Real, 1999) have made a nod to the work of the singer Enrique Morente in their new and “sentimental” collaboration, ‘Omega’, which premiered this Wednesday, September 25, and could already be heard for the first time at the Piromusical de La Mercè in Barcelona.

The song that both signed is named after the work of Enrique Morente and Lagartija Nick, ‘Omega’, a title with which both artists managed to lay the foundations for a revolution in flamenco –mixed with indie or rock–, something that both Rosalía and Ralphie pay homage to in their own ‘Omega’ and in their careers.

The basis of this song is based on the electric guitar – also featured on Morente’s album – to which are added purely decorative elements such as clapping or the artists’ own voices, all narrated with lyrics that approach the sexual and sentimental experience in which Rosalía stands out with her sweet and lyrical voice.

“I don’t drink anymore, I don’t smoke anymore/ I don’t consume and I boast about it/ You are the best/ And before you I was the worst/ I have become sentimental (You are my omega)/ Before making you finish (You are my omega),” sings the Catalan.

For his part, Ralphie Choo completes the song with some verses in a more direct and strong voice, in which the autotune distorts the words, but not in a strident way.And the further you go/ Everything about you reminds me of you/ I come from everywhere and my gang covers me/ If I’m not what I want, God forbid/ I can be Céline Dion and a tiger’“, recites the singer of ‘Dolores’.

The video that accompanies the song is by Stillz, the musical director who has directed works by Bad Bunny, Sech, Jhay Cortez and Omar Apollo, among others, where the Catalan singer and Choo appear on a roller coaster laughing.

‘Omega’ arrives a month after ‘New Woman’, the song that the Catalan singer signed with one of the members of the South Korean K-pop group Blackpink, Lisa.

The singer of ‘Motomami’ announced this new preview –of what could be included in a new work, in a new era– through the channel that he already uses to communicate with his followers: his official WhatsApp channel.

RALPHIE CHOO, NUMBER 1 ON THE VINYL CHART IN SPAIN

In 2023, Ralphie Choo released his first album ‘Supernova’, a work that reached the top positions in the Spanish charts – it entered at number 48 on the album chart. A year later, on September 14, the artist released the vinyl version, which reached number 1 on the official vinyl chart in Spain.

Among her most listened to songs on the streaming music platform Spotify are ‘Dolores’, with more than 16 million plays; ‘Gata’, which has accumulated 4.6 million; ‘VOYCONTODO’, which almost reaches 4 million plays; ‘El Camino’, her collaboration with Dellafuente and Rusowski; or ‘Lamento de una supernova’, a song from 2020 that also exceeds 6 million plays.

PREMIERE AT THE FESTIVALS OF LA MERCÈ

According to a statement issued by Barcelona City Council on Tuesday, Rosalía will premiere ‘Omega’ at the La Mercè Fireworks Show, as the song will be part of the playlist that the artist had prepared for the music and fire show.

The Mercè festivities close with the traditional Piromusical, this year “designed and made” by Rosalía, according to the Councillor for Culture and Creative Industries, Xavier Marcé.
