BTS member Suga fined 10,000 euros for drunk driving

The checkbook is out. Suga, the K-pop star and member of the boy band BTS, is fined 10,295 euros ($11,500) for driving an electric scooter while drunk, reports the South Korean news agency Yonhap, this Monday, September 30. The Seoul Western District Court issued its ruling last week, imposing the sentence requested by prosecutors.

The 31-year-old rapper was arrested on the night of August 6, after being found lying near his scooter with an alcohol level of 0.227%, almost three times the rate authorized by law. Too ill on the day of the incident, the star was not able to answer the police’s questions, forced to postpone the interrogation, which finally took place at the end of last month. The singer, who had his driving license revoked, apologized to his fans, saying he had committed “ a serious mistake » et « having tarnished BTS’ name. » But some still have not digested the news, even calling for the departure of the BTS singer.

A contested version

According to his record company, Big Hit Music, Suga fell off his scooter after trying to park it in the middle of the night. Furthermore, according to the label, the rapper was negative in the alcohol test. Since June 2022, the K-pop group has been on hiatus, allowing artists to focus on their solo careers, before beginning their mandatory military service in South Korea.
