Body Al Discovered, festival of dance solos, reaches its ninth edition

Great diversity of styles, ranging from butoh to experimental dance, will be performed by the solo dancers who will participate from October 4 to 27 in the ninth edition of the International Festival of Contemporary Dance Body Uncovered, directed by Maribel Michel, which has served as space for reflection and celebration of the art of Terpsichore.

The meeting emerged as a platform for dancers of all ages and styles; They can even participate with free theme choreographies, but the only restriction we have in the call is that they be an outstanding performer, emerging young people, dancers who are distinguished by their movements, by their interpretive qualities and the way in which they project.explained in an interview the director of the festival, which will host the Benito Juárez, de la Danza and La Teatrería theaters.

Body Uncovered will be enriched this year with the participation of artists from Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador and Mexico, who will integrate special programs for each forum, such as Dance for sideboard, at La Teatrería, from October 4 to 6; Gala of contemporary dance soloists, on October 15 at the Dance Theater, and from October 24 to 27 there will be a dance exhibition that includes young creators, soloists with a career and established creators, as well as a tribute to the teacher Isabel Beteta.

We are going to have 20 artists from Mexico City, Oaxaca, Jalisco, Veracruz, Durango, Sinaloa, Puebla and the state of Mexico, as well as from Ecuador, Costa Rica and Cuba. Three in-person workshops will also be held, one will be taught by teacher Sandra Soto and another on contemporary dance by Costa Rican Sara Montero, in addition to one on choreographic composition with Javier Alejandro Pérez from Ecuador.indicated Maribel Michel.

Gabriela Montero, Omar Carrum, Omar Santiesteban, Anahí Galarza, Elisa Romero, Eustorgio Guzmán, Rosario Verea, Fernando Hernández, Luisa González, Alejandra Betancourt and Beatriz Madrid, among others, will also participate in the festival.

Regarding the tribute to Beteta, founder and director of the companies Nemian Danza Escénica and Los Corpografos, Maribel commented: Isabel is a tenacious woman who loves dance and has created spaces for other artists, such as Foro Los Talleres. She is always very open to different proposals; In addition, she has been a promoter of festivals such as Soliloquios and Diálogos Bailados, and was a pioneer in creating a solo meeting in the country..

He also highlighted that Isabel Beteta’s work “is very visual, it has very emotional scenes. On this occasion in the tribute the teacher will dance at La Teatrería with the piece Hoy, and at the Teatro de la Danza and the Benito Juarez he will perform his choreography Calling Me, which is a combination between contemporary dance and its version of The death of the swan, where at the end he sings.”
