Around a hundred workers from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) demonstrated yesterday at the Castillo de Chapultepec National History Museum and later at the National Museum of Anthropology in protest at the ratification of anthropologist Diego Prieto in the general direction of that instance and demanded his dismissal.
Members of the National Union of Administrative, Manual, Technical and Professional Workers of the INAH (SNTAMTP-INAH) regretted the latent precariousness
in archaeological zones, historical monuments and museums.
Paúl Padua and Sergio Moreno, members of the union’s executive committee, indicated that it is required a director who is truly committed to the mission and values of the institute, which are to preserve, conserve and disseminate cultural heritage
.
They commented that years ago they reported abandonment
y the precariousness
in the INAH work centers, without taking action on the matter.
There is a lack of basic issues to operate, such as cleaning supplies, and the sites and collections are already in very poor condition due to lack of maintenance.
They mentioned partial detachments of pyramidal bases in the archaeological zone of Los Reyes, state of Mexico, and water leaks in the Anthropology and Viceroyalty museums, in Tepotzotlán.
They announced that they will hold a larger rally in Mexico City between November 4 and 8, with the presence of union sections from the 18 entities.
Support to the official
In contrast, on October 16, more than 500 workers from various areas of the INAH issued a statement addressed to President Claudia Sheinbaum and the head of the Ministry of Culture, Claudia Curiel, in which they recognized the ratification of Diego Priego as head of that dependency.
They included a text, entitled The INAH in the Future. For a solid institution, with recognized workers and firm service to society in times of transformation, in which they highlighted how the institute has come forward with a presence and projection that it had never had before
in the face of the difficult circumstances experienced in the country.
