The Spanish actress Penelope Cruz won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival this Saturday for her performance in the film ‘Parallel Mothers’ by director Pedro Almodóvar.

The interpreter also opted for the award for another film, ‘Official Competition’, by Argentines Mariano Cohn and Gastón Drupat, but finally her performance in ‘Parallel Mothers’ has given her this international recognition, thus being the first Spanish actress to win the Cup Volpi at this Venice festival.

In his speech, in English, he dedicated the award to his family and especially his mother. “To my mother, Encarna, the best teacher and friend; and to my, Pilar Bardem”, whom she remembered after her death two months ago. “It goes for the two of them and all the mothers,” the actress concluded.
