“Let shame change field”: Gisèle Pelicot’s daughter at the heart of an upcoming documentary on chemical submission

The Mazan rape trial is coming to an end, but the voices of the victims will resonate for a long time to come. The Pelicot couple’s daughter, Caroline Darian, is participating in a documentary on the Mazan rapes and chemical submission, filming of which is underway, France Télévisions said on Thursday, confirming information from the American magazine Variety.

The broadcast of the documentary, titled “Chemical submission, let shame change field”, is scheduled in the coming months by the public group. Produced by CAPA, it is directed by Linda Bendali. Other victims of chemical submission than Gisèle Pelicot testify there. Caroline Darian says she herself is convinced of having been drugged and raped by her father Dominique, like her mother Gisèle.

Heard from the first week of the Mazan rape trial, which began on September 2, Caroline Darian (her pen name under which she published a book in April 2022, “And I stopped calling you dad.”), 45, repeated that she was “trying to rebuild herself” because her life had been “on hold for four years”.

“Victims must be heard”

Caroline Darian was applauded at length this Wednesday at the Adidas Arena in Paris, during the solidarity show “Nos Voix pour Tous” organized by the Women’s Foundation. “We can no longer ignore violence against women (…) Things must change. The victims must be heard, supported, believed,” she declared on this occasion.

The trial before the Vaucluse criminal court, with international repercussions, has entered its home stretch. On Thursday, the defense of the co-defendants pleaded to escape the “tornado” triggered by this affair on male-female relationships.

Conversely on Wednesday, in an indictment “looking towards the future”, the prosecution hoped that the future verdict would constitute “a message of hope” for victims of sexual violence.
