The skeleton of a prehistoric bear some 30,000 years old at auction in Drouot

On November 29 in Paris, AuctionArt is organizing the auction of the exceptional prehistoric collection of former advertising executive Claude Douce.

On November 29, 2024, AuctionArt is organizing an exceptional auction, highlighting part of the prehistoric collection of ex-advertiser Claude Douce. This Neanderthal enthusiast will have gathered a veritable treasure of some 500,000 pieces in the cellars of his property in Dordogne, which he has decided to put up for auction today, before writing his memoirs in which he will return to the history of his greatest campaigns.

This fascinating collection includes a diverse range of artifacts, including bifaces, knives, arrowheads, axes, and even a prehistoric bear skeleton discovered in Russia (estimated between 40,000 and 50,000 euros). Claude Douce, a scholar of prehistoric architecture, further emphasizes that “this collection is not just an accumulation of ancient objects, but a testimony to the history of progress and innovation through the ages, spanning no less than 400,000 years of human evolution.”

For auctioneer Valentin de Sa Morais, this sale is much more than a simple sale of collector’s items: “It is the History of humanity that we can afford. It is an extraordinary experience to hold in the palm of your hand a flint cut 40,000 years ago, whose purity of line dialogues with Picasso. Everything is already there! » This reflection highlights the link between primitive art and modern art, emphasizing the harmony between ancient and contemporary forms.
This event promises to captivate collectors, history buffs and prehistory enthusiasts, while providing a unique opportunity to own a part of human heritage. See you Friday, November 29, room 15 at the Hôtel Drouot.
