Actor and a musician Heikki Silvennoinen as a comedian, he was a master at creating memorable sketch characters. Many of them are known for hacks that have remained alive in people’s minds, and you hear them still being used.

Among numerous favorite characters, it is difficult to single out just one. We present six hilarious characters for whom Silvennoinen is remembered.

Silvennoinen, 70, died Wednesday after a long illness.

Mauno Ahonen

Black tooth Mauno Ahonen is a leisurely working news reporter who gave his own quick reports with very slow energy and speaking rhythm. Even if the world around him crumbles, Ahonen takes the situation calmly.

Tuomas Marjamäki in the book Hare – Very well said (Docendo, 2015) it is said that Silvennoinen found the character’s clothes by digging through the costume shop’s clothes baskets and trying on different outfits.

“He found there gray terylene pants, a white collared shirt, a tasteless tie and a wig, which he put on his head the wrong way around so that there was a sharp border on his forehead and his hair resembled an upturned cauldron,” the book says.

Silvennoinen finished the whole thing with big glasses, black teeth and TV2’s studio director’s headset.

Ahonen often goes to the legendary Tampere pub Ohranjyvä after his work.

Raimo Formisto

In an interview with Rumba in 2014 Silvennoinen explained the birth of the two characters like this: “At the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, you could see a lot of heavy-duty guys on the streets. They were the kind of Donald Duck dudes who got all sorts of things happen to them, but they always remained as intact and even went through gray stone. There’s something funny about all of us music makers – especially when we’re serious,” said Silvennoinen.

Efektimies

Character accompanies what he does with different sounds, i.e. effects. Every movement the character makes and every thing or object he grabs is accompanied by various virtuoso sound effects.

Hawthorn made by the Carrot group described the character to TV2’s entertainment boss in the early 1990s, according to Tuomas Marjamäki’s book, as follows:

“The lightning fast effects man lives on effects. It really works in any kind of situation: making a sandwich, listening to music, doing business in the store.”

Matti Näsä

From Tampere a bachelor who rambles and rambles about his opinions on various aspects of daily life in Tampere in his strong local dialect. He could get nervous, for example, from endless explanations at car repair shops, and when Näsä got nervous, there was enough talking.

One of the hacks: “God bless these days.”

According to Tuomas Marjamäki’s book, Matti Näsä sketches were made at a breakneck speed, at least in the beginning, without a larger script. The idea was just to talk and blurt out something. Sketches were shot four times at a time.

It was too much for the actor of the character and the takes had to be retaken many times. In the end, Silvennoinen got tired and started shouting lines in a raspy voice.

“There was no script, the idea was just that we are in Näsinneula and the topic is violence. Take it then,” Silvennoinen said in the book.

Jaakko Parantainen

Environment box guidance manager, master’s degree Jaakko Parantainen confidently presents himself as an expert on various issues, but pretty much rambles on about his own and beside the point. Not an easy interviewee, who doesn’t always get a very concise and sharp answer.

Chamomile– in the early days of the series, Silvennoinen was quite shy, except in his own group. That’s why he went to film Parantainen’s skit alone as the presenter in the skits Olli Keskinen with.

“Hessu got so cheap that together with Olli, he imagined that no one would ever come to see the pranks,” Timo Kahilainen told in Marjamäki’s book.

A bill of a ton

One In recent years, Silvennoinen’s characters have been featured in public and in people’s conversations perhaps more than anything else. It is the salesman character of the Tonni seteli sketch, which rose to legendary fame.

In the sketch, the customer portrayed by Timo Kahilainen arrives at the cafe, orders a small coffee and a waffle and pays for everything with a ton of bills, but only gets two marks back from the seller. When the customer starts demanding the change back, the seller just stares at him silently and completely expressionless without saying a word.

Silvennoinen had the skill to freeze his face immobile.

“I just had to come up with something about that concrete look. And you didn’t even have to invent it. I once gave Silvennoinen a fifty note, of which I had to give thirty back. It completely froze”, Kahilainen recalls the birth of the character in Marjamäki’s book.

Silvennoinen’s famous look has since inspired many. For example Heidi Vuorio on has painted murals and prints from the look, and Makia has used the look in her clothing collection.

Tonni’s note look has also become a very popular meme, which you come across on social media here and there.
