The poet Stefano Del Bianco wins the Umberto Saba prize

The jury, chaired by Claudio Grisancich and composed of Franca Mancinelli, Antonio Riccardi, Gian Mario Villalta and Roberto Galaverni, with unanimous verdict states that “Paradiso” is “a book in which that path of a generation of contemporary Italian poetry is created, that Giovanni Raboni had some decades ago – exhorting the young people of the time, among whom the winner of today – with the most form. More sense ‘. According to the motivations, “Paradiso” is “a seasonal book, in a certain sense, as seasonal there have been many relevant books of modern poetry, from Gabriele D’Annunzio to Andrea Zanzotto. It is however a ghostly season, in many respects, that of Covid. But also of the wait, the advent of a subsequent time, which brings with it the hope of a new different pact between man and all the living”.

The delivery ceremony of the Umberto Saba Poetry 2025 award is scheduled for Friday 21 March, World Poetry Day, at 6 pm in the spaces of the Letts Museum – Literature in Trieste (Piazza Hortis 4). The Saba Poetry prize went to the first 2021 edition to Umberto Piersanti, in its second 2022 edition in Milo De Angelis, in 2023 to Vivian Lamarque and in 2024 to Antonella Anedda.

“A prize – adds the deputy mayor Serena Tonel – strongly desired by the city of Trieste together with the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, to pay homage to a great fellow citizen such as the poet Umberto Saba, recalling the topicality of the inspiring role that Trieste has for contemporary literary production. We want to contact us above all to the new generations, so that they can cultivate their critical and analysis sense”.

The event on Saturday 22 March is addressed to the younger generations, at 10.30 am always in the spaces of Lets: Stefano Dal Bianco will be the protagonist of a poetic laboratory open to citizens on the theme “The voice and the verse. The metric you don’t know you know”.
