Eckart von Hirschhausen is a man who actually realizes his dreams. This may make him a role model than his commitment to climate protection and generally a healthy life.
A few years ago, the moderator, who grew up in Zehlendorf, filled the Waldbühne and entertained 10,000 spectators under the title “Medicine and Magic” with magic. He obviously learned early on to think big and grab the stars. On March 31, he now played the chamber music hall of the Philharmonie together with two friends of musicians. In a musical cabaret entitled “Music makes you happy – and saves the world”, he wants to present sound examples from nature there.
As a teenager, he was able to experience great concerts in the Philharmonie, from the Philharmonic to the jazz violinist Stephan Grapelli with the Bach double concert, he recalls. For him, these were unforgettable experiences. He couldn’t really believe that he would occur in this holy halls himself: “I find it an incredible honor and joy.”
When listening, we have no great CO₂ emissions apart from our breath.

In passing, this assignment even has to do with climate protection. “When listening, we have no great CO₂ emissions apart from our breath. We can travel around the world in our heads without making a lot of kerosene, calories or cryptocurrencies,” he points out. “So it is the antidote to buy the Internet empty out of frustration and loneliness.”

With the pianist Christoph Reuter, he connects him for around 20 years together. Hirschhausen particularly fascinates that he can seemingly effortlessly switch from a classic piece to a jazz improvisation and back again.
The rainforest as an orchestra
With the violinist Mareike Neumann, who has already won an opus classical music for her project “Bach by Bike”, he wants to talk about how the “orchestra of change” combines sustainability and enjoyment of music.
The sound examples from nature come from the “Orchestra of the Animals” of the American Musicians and sound researchers Bernie Krause. For his project of the origin of music in nature, he spent decades of collecting unique sound landscapes with microphones. If you listen to the complex interaction of the tones in a rainforest, the parallel becomes an orchestra.
Natural sounds away from everyday noise
When researching the program, Hirschhausen particularly impressed sounds that he has never heard before. A lively coral reef is the tingling and vibrating, while the dead reef only makes a sad empty wave noise: “With the natural sounds in the program, I would like to remind you of how the whole world around us is full of sound as soon as we leave the noise of everyday life behind.”
To protect the planetary health, the lucky doctor, as he sometimes also calls himself, is committed to his “Healthy Earth – Healthy People” foundation founded in 2020. In this context, according to his conviction, music also plays a major role among other factors.
Protection factors for mental health
Medicine is needed that show the importance of the air we breathe. The water for drinking, the plants for eating, tolerable temperatures and peaceful coexistence were also included.
In his opinion, the major protective factors for mental health include, above all, positive community experiences, self -efficacy, humor and just music. “Actually, there should be the evening in the Philharmonie on cash,” he jokes. The doctor has a large example ready for the health -promoting power of music.
Sing projects in primary schools
Beethoven had directly related to his natural life with the pastoral. And for him he was also a role model as to what resilience, mental resistance, was concerned: “When he increasingly lost his hearing and desperately desperately desperate about his life, the music he felt in his way kept him alive.”
That is why the moderator is also committed to singing projects in primary schools, because the earlier in life you get connected to this force, the deeper you can accompany you in life.
In addition, he also remembered a study in whose framework 75-year-old who had never played an instrument before got piano hours. Within a year, their brain was rejuvenated by two years: “These effects are stronger than many medication.”
The scientist also speaks from his own experience. He always liked to sing, from the children’s choir to the Christmas Oratorio in Schlachtensee to the campfire with guitar accompaniment. Will his conviction be shared by some football fans? In any case, he believes gently ironically that many men only go to the stadium for the catch chants.
When asked what music he gets goose bumps, he replies again with a joke: “The most reliable I get goose bumps by writing up styrofoam.” However, he does not yet want to reveal whether he will, like in the Waldbühne, to sing along in the Philharmonie in the Philharmonie: “Let yourself be surprised.”
In the end, does he have a tip on how to integrate music into everyday life on really health -promoting way? Hirschhausen cannot be asked for long: “Dancing more! Is the best protection against Alzheimer’s. No matter what music.” He also recommends staying curious, on new sounds, new rhythms, new moves. You can experience them in Berlin on every corner and every time. And he gives the advantage of big city life right away: “Nobody watches stupid, so what holds us back?”
