Persecution and flight as a comic – the Austrian draftsman Alwin Hecher has artistically worked up the experiences of a Jewish girl and his girlfriend in National Socialist terror.
The now published graphic novel “Lodzia and Marysia” tells the story of Leokadia Justman and Marysia Fuks on around 90 pages. The book is based on an autobiographical report Justmans. In it the girl describes his struggle for survival.
Justman survived the persecution during the Nazi era under false identity in Tyrol and Salzburg. Among other things, she saved the courageous behavior of five police officers and three women from Tyrol – they were posthumously honored as “just among the peoples” in the Yad Vashem memorial. Justman’s mother murdered the SS in Treblinka, her father died in the Reichenau concentration camp near Innsbruck.
